Fortinet has officially announced the launch of FortiOS 7.6, marking a significant enhancement to its real-time network security operating system. This latest update underscores Fortinet’s ongoing commitment to integrating networking and security into a cohesive platform, challenging the traditionally siloed approach that has characterized the cybersecurity landscape for decades.

FortiOS 7.6 introduces a suite of new features and capabilities across the Fortinet Security Fabric, the industry’s most mature and comprehensive cybersecurity platform. This includes the addition of generative AI capabilities, new managed services for firewall SASE (Secure Access Service Edge), and SOC (Security Operations Center) operations, alongside new data protection measures and integrations for the unified agent.

Ken Xie, Fortinet Founder, Chairman of the Board, and CEO, highlighted the unique position of FortiOS as the world’s most powerful real-time network security operating system. It is designed to simplify management across various vectors including content, applications, users, devices, data, and locations.

The core of Fortinet’s strategy is an integrated platform built on a single operating system, FortiOS, which has led to industry-leading positions across multiple Gartner Magic Quadrant categories. This approach simplifies the complexity of managing disparate systems and ensures consistent security policies and enforcement across networks.

FortiOS 7.6 extends its capabilities in secure networking, providing enhancements for OT, IoT, and edge security. Key updates include the integration of FortiAI within FortiManager for improved platform management, a new Managed FortiGate Service for NOC team support, and significant upgrades in Data Loss Prevention (DLP) and Wi-Fi 7 Controller functionality.

Additionally, the update enhances Fortinet’s Unified SASE offering, introducing complete EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) capabilities to FortiClient, which adds ransomware protection and automated responses. FortiOS 7.6 also brings advancements in SD-WAN, including new capabilities for streamlined operations and improved user experience, along with support for remote browser isolation and end-to-end Digital Experience Monitoring (DEM).

For SOC operations, FortiOS 7.6 enhances threat identification and response with advanced AI capabilities. This includes a new Security Automation Subscription for FortiAnalyzer, offering powerful features like premium reports, event handlers, and incident response playbooks. The update also integrates EDR with FortiClient, reinforcing endpoint security.

Fortinet’s release of FortiOS 7.6 reaffirms its dedication to organic innovation and strategic acquisitions, aiming to provide a holistic and integrated cybersecurity and networking solution. This platform approach has been shown to deliver better security outcomes, more efficient operations, and a stronger ROI.
